Διαβάζω για δεύτερη φορά το καταπληκτικό βιβλίο του διπλωμάτη και μετέπειτα Πρεσβευτή των ΗΠΑ στην Ελλάδα, Μοντήγκλ Στερνς, "Ανδρέας Παπανδρέου - Το Αίνιγμα" και ξεχώρισα μια συγκεκριμένη παράγραφο στην οποία ο τέως Πρεσβευτής συνοψίζει το ελληνικό παραδοσιακό μοντέλο (αποτυχημένο;) ανάπτυξης που επικράτησε ανάμεσα στις κυβερνήσεις που διαδέχονταν η μία την άλλη για παραπάνω από δύο δεκαετίες, φτάνοντας στη σύγχρονη ελληνική οικονομική κρίση: "Ο Ανδρέας ήθελε πολύ να ακούσει τις απόψεις μου περί της ελληνικής πολιτικής σκηνής. Most international analysts, economists, expert advisors around the world, did not expect that their initial forecasts for inflation will be of such duration, severity and immediate danger. The current rate will increase further, dragging prices along, preventing the much-desired growth that everyone longed after 2+ years of Covid-19 pandemic and shrinking global economic activity. Experts' forecasts expected early stabilization and a gradual decrease in prices. So what happened and the frenzied rally of a decades-long historic inflation continues? The current discussions between friends or experts about the war in Ukraine, usually lead to past reports of the mistakes, responsibilities and aggressive actions of the West in the Balkans, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, military involvement in Ukraine and the periphery region of Russia. It seems that all those who try to justify Russia's indisputably murderous, criminal actions on European soil, with the daily deaths of children and civilians, have been finding it difficult for years to adopt the Western narrative, for deeply ideological reasons, not to mention the psychoneurotic empathy towards the Western order of things and perception of the reality of which they are -unfortunately for them- part. Here is my personal comment on the much discussed eurobond for dealing with Covid-19 after effects in EE and Eurozone economies: '' #Germany saying no to a new eurobond requested by other member countries where Covid-19 is ravaging their economies, proves once again to have very weak memory. In 1953, 20 countries in London, agreed to help Germany with deleting 52% of its post war debt and reformed the rest of debt in accepting long term loans and payments only if Germany secured annual budget surpluses. Επέλεξα να συγκρίνω την Ελλάδα και με την Πορτογαλία διότι είναι μια μικρή και μη παραδειγματική χώρα της ευρωζώνης η οποία, όπως εμείς, ζήτησε μνημονιακή βοήθεια διότι η κυβέρνησή της χρεοκόπησε. The economic recovery in Greece is accelerating and broadening. Growth and job creation in Greece are expected to accelerate further in 2019. Public sector financing needs remain manageable under the baseline due to strong fiscal balances, low debt servicing costs, and a large cash buffer. While access to external funding is improving, spreads remain high, and domestic credit growth remains negative. In this scenario, Greece’s capacity to repay the Fund is assessed to be adequate. However, vulnerabilities remain significant and downside risks are rising. Greece’s crisis legacies - high public debt, impaired private balance sheets - along with a still-weak payment culture make the economy vulnerable to increasing external (e.g., global slowdown, sharp tightening of financial conditions) and domestic risks (e.g., ongoing court cases challenging key reforms, and reform fatigue).
